Saturday 2/10/24 the Crown Point Auto technology student competed in this year’s UTI Top Tech Challenge at the Lisle Illinois.
The Auto Shop students competed in a written test before the top 15 teams were allowed to advance to the hands-on portion of the contest. Our school had two teams of students compete, in which one was successful in landing a top 10 finish.
Team #17 was senior Landon Gust and junior Quinten Osburn, they were able to land a 9th-place finish in a combined written test and hands-on competition. The winning members of this team both received a $1000.00 scholarship from UTI.
Our second team, Team #16 was junior Aiden Hunt and junior Ryan Lukas. This team was locked in a 3-way tie for 15th place. UTI had to prepare a secondary test to eliminate two of the three teams. Sadly the second team didn’t make the cut, but the students did a great job having to double down on the second written test which covered material that was above and beyond what the students were supposed to have reviewed to prep for the contest.
In summary, everybody was pleased with their performances, this is a building year for them because 3 out of the 4 students that we took hadn`t ever competed in a competition before. Those juniors are already talking about hitting them harder next year!
