On February 16 and 17, the boys varsity wrestling team drove down to Evansville to participate in individual state. In total, the team placed 3rd with 121.0 with one State Champion.
Senior Will Clark placed 1st against Senior Brandon Johnson from Lawrence North High School at the 215 weight class. Clark is a two time state champion. He placed 1st last year at the 220 weight class and he placed 5th his sophomore year at the 195 weight class. In his senior year, Clark’s record was 33-3. Clark is also a 4x Sectional, 3x Regional, 2x Semi-State Champion.
“I am feeling really good,” Clark said. I am happy that I won and that I could end my high school sport that way. It just sucks that we couldn’t win the team title this year.”
According to an article written by Billy Buckeit published on December 15, 2023, Clark is ranked 19th in the country at the 215 weight class.
In the 21-22 and the 22-23 seasons, Clark helped his team to win back to back state championships. His high school record and his accomplishments led him to be eligible for many awards.
Indiana Mat named Clark the 1st Runner-Up for the Mr. Gorilla award. In order to qualify for this award, wrestlers must meet certain criteria, including their number of pins and their grades. This award is an honor for those who are nominated.
