Karlson learned ASL through the ASL Club, which she has been in since she was a freshman. After seeing that their ISSMA song is supposed to have ASL in the chorus, Karlson asked their choir director if they could learn it and teach it to the class. “I was very excited to have this opportunity, it was difficult making sure all the signs were correct so nothing was offensive. I double-checked with a few different resources and deaf peers that I knew so I could make sure the signs were right. I feel like everybody learned it pretty quickly and overall I think it really pulled the piece together and I’m very proud,” Karlson said.
