The Crown Point varsity baseball team is currently the 27th team in Indiana and 4th in the Duneland Conference. The varsity players all help each other gain the confidence needed to succeed in the game. All of the players take ownership in their mistakes and help their teammates. The coaching staff is cooperative and cohesive in their goals of helping the team be the best they can be.
One exceptional player on the varsity team is Aslyn Farinelli. Farinelli is a senior at CPHS and has been playing for the varsity team since he was a sophomore. Farinelli currently plays pitcher, shortstop, and third baseman.
Ever since he was younger, Farinelli has wanted to play baseball. Now that he is playing and expanding his confidence, he cannot get enough of it.
“My brother played baseball when I was growing up, so I followed in his footsteps,” Farinelli said. “I just love every second I am out playing on the field. I just can’t wait to get on the field every game.”
The CPHS varsity baseball team has helped Farinelli become a better player and work with a team.
“Whenever I made a mistake they all held me accountable for everything,” Farinelli said. “When I was down, they would pick me up and help me keep my head in the game. When I would strike out or if I would make an error, they would keep me going.”
During the baseball season, there are always high-stakes games. Sometimes that pressure can take the fun out of the sport for some players. However, Farinelli has a different perspective.
“I actually enjoy high-stakes games a lot,” Farinelli said. “I like the competition and being in that mood where it’s a win-win situation. I always pray before the game and every time I go up the bat, I make a cross in the dirt or turf with my bat.”
Aslyn Farinelli will not be saying goodbye to baseball after high school. Farinelli plans to attend college at Ohio Northern University and continue to play baseball. Baseball is also a potential career in Farinelli’s future.
