A Crown Point High School construction student has received a gift of a lifetime. The Construction Advancement Foundation is a Trade Association that works for the unions in Northwest Indiana. The foundation helps students and other individuals get into the trades. This year was the first year that the foundation was giving out ten awards to ten highschooler. The award was given to only seniors and Gavin Grum was one of the recipients.
“Gavin has been a great leader in the shop, always teaching his fellow classmates how to go through with the tasks that are assigned.” Mr. Sowash said.
The award was $500 to be used as pleased. “The blue collar supply company is providing him money for boots or clothing to further pursue his career with the pipe fitters”, Sowash said.
Receiving the award out of ten other high school seniors in all of Northwest Indiana is all out of hard work and commitment. “The pipefitters entails a lot of welding, it’s a little hard to explain.” Grum said.
The definition of a pipefitter is a tradesman who installs, assembles, fabricates, maintains, and repairs mechanical piping systems. Grum has been given such a great opportunity and push to start his career. “I feel very appreciative and thankful for this opportunity”, Grum said.
