(Ma’Rae Wallace) Con:
While the idea of school dances is fun, the dance and everything leading up to it is not. Dresses and suits run from $50-300+ depending on where you get your outfit from. The amount of money and time that goes into the preparation of school dances that are in the fieldhouse of the school, which eventually gets hot and sweaty after a while, is not really worth it. The dance is 3-4 hours and people leave early to go to after-parties or out to eat with friends after 1 or 2 hours. School dance would be more fun if we had more space and the cost of attire isn’t so much.
(Danica Dommer) Pro:
Who doesn’t love school dances? They are a great opportunity to interact with peers and have a great time with friends. This is why it is a bright idea for schools to continue to host school dances. Dances like Homecoming, Prom, Turnabout, etc. are highly beneficial for students. They allow students to make friends and engage with peers they might not have interacted with before. School dances can also provide students with an opportunity to practice working on important life skills such as communication, goal setting, time management, and even more. The reluctance to host an event such as these can affect students in a negative way, for example, it can cause a student to get extremely and unnecessarily stressed out over back-to-back school assignments and extracurriculars. This proves that school dances are not only fun but genuinely beneficial for the student’s mind.
