If you’ve ever had to troubleshoot your Chromebook, Buzz, or Powerschool, you know that media specialist Carie Tamayo is always there to help out.
“My main responsibilities are ordering and taking care of books and anything related to Chromebooks, charging them, helping them get fixed, and helping kids when they have trouble with Buzz,” Tamayo said.
The Learning Commons is a trendy hang-out spot for students. They visit during the mornings before school as Tamayo works to ensure a fresh start to the day.
“I keep it a positive environment by trying to smile, be happy, and joke with the kids,” Tamayo said. “I try to think of how I would want my kids to be treated when they walk into a room at a school and try to do that.”
Tamayo started working here in 2016 as her children were in school at the time. She enjoys the schedule, how the students interact, and how the faculty cares.
“I think the faculty members genuinely seem to care about the students, their success, their happiness, and making sure that they’re doing well,” Tamayo said. “I think that’s pretty amazing to see at work.”
When Tamayo is not troubleshooting computers or ordering books, she spends time with her husband and kids.
“When I am not working, I like to be spending time with my family, and I like to hike,” Tamayo said. “With my family, we watch TV and movies. My daughter and I like board games, and my son and I like to go to the flea market.”
Despite the busyness of computers and books in the learning commons, Tamayo still makes time to connect with the students and faculty around her creating a positive environment where students can visit throughout the day.
