“Uglies” is a book series that was recently turned into a movie this year. The movie “Uglies” is about a society divided into the Uglies and the Pretties. The Uglies are people who are under the age of sixteen and are considered “ugly” because they are not beautiful and have flaws. The Pretties are people over the age of sixteen whose flaws have been removed. In order to get into the side of the society with the Pretties, on your sixteenth birthday you undergo a surgery that makes you pretty and your purpose is revealed. With a society divided, there will always be people who have opinions that impact others. In the movie this person’s name is Dave and he quickly found out the truth to society and the reality of the surgery that makes people pretty.
“Uglies” is a movie that makes you think about the reality of our society and how people are perceived to be ugly vs. pretty all the time. While watching the movie, I suggest the watchers really pay attention to the lines and how the characters view themselves in their society and see how it relates to our society. I think the film adaptation is a 10/10, and I highly recommend it.
