Around Halloween, Six Flags Great America hosts Fright Fest from September 13 through November 3rd. The frightening change starts at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays. This fest is another fun event besides the thrilling rides and attractions there all year round. Fright Fest first debuted at Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas, in 1986. Since then, this attraction has branched out to other Six Flags nationwide.
Fright Fest gives everyone an immersive experience with the eeriness of how these various creepy characters come out to scare you. At around six o’clock each day, the frightening fest begins. The dynamic ambiance suddenly changes when you hear creepy instrumental music, see fog coming from various places, and possibly be chased by a character in a scare zone. Many people experience fun and frightening thrills when being chased or interacting with others at Fright Fest.
One of the major reasons many people go to Fright Fest is because of the haunted houses. This year there were five haunted houses to choose from. The themes include Stranger Things, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, SAW 20th anniversary, The Estate at Wretched Meadows, and Big Top Terror. Each year they change out their haunted houses for more popular and entertaining ones. The only ones they keep are The Estate at Wretched Meadows which is set in 1960 in an eerie household and Big Top Terror which immerses you in a clown-infested area. The other three houses put you into perspective of their following movies and T.V. shows, showing you how the protagonists felt while running from their fears.
Another common attraction Fright Fest offers is various shows and visual effects such as, “The Pumpkin King”. They run theatrical shows that show different monster characters doing human-like things such as becoming a ringmaster and falling in love. If you enter the park as the Fright Fest is starting, toward the back of the fountain there is a large Pumpkin that emerges from the ground. The Pumpkin King gives a spooky speech about sending all of his ghouls to come after all of the people within the park. This immediately adds to the creepiness of how scary Fright Fest is.
I highly recommend checking out this fest for yourself. It has many different attractions that get you into the Halloween spirit. Fright Fest keeps you enthralled and immersed in the eerie scene that frightens you down to the bone.
