Marina Halterman (10) wanted to participate in different school activities to help benefit her later in life. Over the summer, Halterman decided to participate in marching band because she was determined to keep herself busy. Little did she know, there were some perks to being in marching band.
“My favorite memory from marching band was our ISSMA competition. [Marching band] taught me that hard work pays off. This will help me to work towards my own goals in the future.”
Although marching band was new to her, Halterman has been a part of band since her freshman year. She was motivated by her friends to join, but she was also very interested in her current instrument, the saxophone.
“I wanted to join because many of my friends were in it, and I was super fascinated with the saxophone. My favorite memory from concerts was getting to play the Grinch at a Christmas concert.”
Halterman is also a key leader in Key Club. She decided to become a key leader because of the great times she had when she was involved with it last year.
“I wanted to be a key leader because Key Club was super fun and important when I was a freshman.”
Not only did she become a leader for the fun aspect, but Halterman also developed some useful skills that she can use later in life.
“I have developed my leadership and teamwork skills. I can apply these skills to school, extracurriculars, and my future.
Overall, Halterman found it of utmost importance to stay active with her school and peers to benefit not only her present self but also her future self.
