The varsity football team had another successful season in the books. The team had many leaders on and off the field who helped them succeed. The staff, coaches, coordinators, managers, trainers, and many others helped bring the team to life.
The football team’s coaching staff is one of the important parts of this team. The head varsity coach, Craig Buzea, led the Bulldogs to three undefeated regular seasons.
“The expectations were very high going into the season,” Buzea said. “It’s not easy to meet them all, but we really answered every question there was all the way up to the end.”
Assistant varsity Coach John Snyder’s first year at Crown Point has been an eventful one.
“With the fact that special teams pull from every position group, I feel like I have an impact with almost all the players,” Snyder said.“We are always trying to find the best players to play for those teams.”
Managers and trainers assist the team in many ways to ensure improvement to their physical and technical skills. Head strength Coach Mark Garrett helps each player stay conditioned for every game.
“The managers play a big role because they help with the technology aspect of it,” outside linebacker Coach Daniel Aultman said. “Just them setting up the iPads and making sure that they’re all up to date and checking that we can see all the videos from Friday night has a huge impact.”
Offensive and defensive coordinators help to call plays instantaneously. It takes strong levels of dedication and focus to call plays in a matter of seconds based on how the game is changing.
“Just in general, we have a wide range of experienced level coaches,” passing game coordinator Joe O’Connell said. “It’s hard to relate to 140 kids individually, especially with the wide range of people and staff from 24 years old to 65 years old. In that way we do, I think, a pretty good job of trying to hit everybody equally.”
Each person on and off the field on the varsity football team plays a key role in how successful each year is. Everyone on the staff helps to work together to push each player and the team as a whole to fulfill their potential. The coaching staff is just as important as the team.
