The boys’ and girls’ swim teams have had fantastic seasons thus far, but the swimmers continue to push themselves onward as they look forward to the upcoming DAC championships, sectionals, and state.
The boys’ team has had an impressive season with seven wins and only two losses. Senior Will Tarin has been working with his fellow captains Aidan Gubbins and Ethan Krstevski to keep the boys team working toward their goals.
“This season, I hope to achieve winning sectionals, doing good at DAC, winning my event at sectionals, and taking a lot of the guys out of state,” Tarin said.
Krstevski, a junior on the team and captain, has also been trying to help the team stay motivated and work towards sectionals. The teams’ record-breaking win against Munster at the start of the season cleared the way for success.
“It was the very first meet, and it set the tone for the whole season,” Krstevski said. “We kind of realized we kind of have something more than we used to. It was definitely a huge moment for us.”
The girls’ team, captained by Bella Tufts, Grace Stimac, and Kaitlyn Flewelling, have also had a stellar season with seven wins and two losses. Flewelling, a junior diver and swimmer, is working toward her goal of making it to the top 16 at state. Her season has been marked by an eventful 50 freestyle during their January 7th meet.
“My biggest accomplishment so far this season has been my 50 free against Valpo. I dove in and my goggles fell off but I ended up going a season best and winning the race,” Flewelling said. “In the coming months I’m hoping to do well at both DAC and sectionals and continue on to hopefully make the top 16 at state.”
With only a few more practices and meets before the DAC championships, both the girls’ and boys’ swim teams are setting their goals and doing what they must to achieve them.
