The Crown Point High School girl’s swim team secured their third consecutive sectional championship this season. Both divers and swimmers did their best to rise to the occasion while facing the pressure of making history and maintaining their winning streak.
“When they won, I was happy for all the swimmers and divers on the team,” said Head Coach Bryon Angerman. “It was great to have a season goal come true. When you can set a team goal to win sectionals and do it three years in a row, it is awesome.”

Preparing for sectionals can be unique for each swimmer and diver on the team. This dedication takes time and commitment to build endurance for each meet which gets them a step closer to sectionals. One of the key aspects, besides the physical preparation for each meet, is each teammate’s mental health. Having the right headspace while going into each meet helps swimmers and divers perform their best, stay motivated during each event, and lead each person to enjoy their sport more.
“To prepare for sectionals, obviously a lot of practice goes into it, but for me, the best thing I can do is just kind of stay in a good headspace,” said junior Grace Stimac. “I worked a lot on just teaching myself not to get overly nervous before races, so just making myself excited to swim. I think that is the best thing I did to prepare myself.”

The sectionals meet is one of the most eventful times in a swimmer and divers swim season. Each meet and event per season before is the warm-up for sectionals. The team competes in many other competitions throughout the year, but this competition has a different feeling than most.
“The sectional meet is unlike any other meet,” said senior Kaitlin Flewelling. “Dual meets are still hype, but sectionals have a lot riding on it. You kind of feel
that pressure, but it just makes it ten times better when you win.”
The CPHS girl’s swim team worked hard and competed in previous matches to pave their way to sectionals. Because of this, the girl’s team made history by winning three years in a row. The girl’s team worked hard to accomplish one of the highest achievements in a swim season.
