Since kindergarten, freshman at Crown Point High School Carson Boomsma has loved basketball.
Although Boomsma loves basketball, it isn’t the only sport he enjoys playing.
“I play baseball too. When I don’t have basketball, I work on baseball,” Boomsma said.
As a two-sport athlete, it could be hard to balance the workload, but Boomsma tries his best.
“If you ever don’t have something to do, you always just gotta keep working,” Boomsma said.
Hard work and discipline are a huge part of being an athlete. Boomsma’s favorite part of being on a team is getting to know his team.
“My favorite part is getting to play with my teammates, getting to be around all the guys and really building great friendships,” Boomsma said.
While Boomsma loves getting to know his current team, he is most excited to start training.
“I’m most excited about working up the ladder, trying to get on the varsity team,” Boomsma said. “Keep trying to win, bringing wins to the program.”
It hasn’t always been easy though, he’s had some struggles as well.
“Playing with the older guys, having to push through that,” Boomsma said. “ In eighth grade, I broke my foot, that was a tough struggle. I had to overcome that, and go through getting healthy again.”
Carson’s basketball career has had many ups and downs, but that doesn’t stop him from having goals. Boomsma wants to one day play in college basketball.
Carson may only be a freshman, but he has big plans, and he plans to achieve them.
