Carlson strives to keep her classroom fun
Teacher Amanda Carlson

Teaching Algebra 2 and Honors Geometry, teacher Amanda Carlson has helped provide countless students with a firm foundation in math.

Carlson tries to keep her class entertained with her jokes and fun teaching style.

“To prepare for the day, I just make sure my lessons are ready, and I know what crazy Carlson-isms I’m gonna teach for the day,” Carlson said.

She has been working at Crown Point since 2006 and has been a teacher since 2003.

“I knew my freshman year of high school because my Algebra teacher, Miss Kite, was amazing. I aspired to be her,” Carlson said.

Carlson believes the community created by students and staff is the best aspect of CPHS.

“It’s all a big community. I worked prior in places where we didn’t have this support and our types of kids and administration,” Carslon said. “I have good friends in the department too, good people work here.”

To try and keep her classroom a fun place to be, Carlson spreads positivity with celebrations, jokes, and incentivizing questions.

“I tell jokes, I celebrate them on my starboard, and I celebrate their birthdays,” Carlson said. “If someone asks a question, I try to give them motivation to ask more, I use incentives to show that, it is a great question and you should ask more like that.”

Carlson aims to make her class as fun and educational as possible.
