In the athletic world, players frequently transfer schools and reconsider their commitments in pursuit of better opportunities. Although it is common for players to transfer in college, there are a number of high school athletes who make the move for scholarship opportunities, stronger athletic programs and academic advantages.
For junior basketball player Bryce Peters, transferring to Crown Point High School was a strategic decision.
“I came to CP to get a better education and to play basketball. They made the transition easy for me,” junior transfer basketball player Bryce Peters said.
Peters, a basketball player who transferred from Merrillville, handled the change relatively smoothly thanks to a welcoming environment.
“Yeah, the team was welcoming. I knew most of the team already,” Peters said. It was really like they were already family.”
Peters isn’t the only student who has successfully transferred to Crown Point. Senior Lucas Zembroski transferred from Tennessee and is now on the CP football team.
Transferring from one school to another opens doors for high school students to show off their skills in front of new audiences, which can lead to making connections for their future. Having transferred to Crown Point, Zembroski used the opportunities to his advantage.
“I got into my dream school that I wanted for college, and I’m going to play there and with all the coaches and players,” senior Zembroski said.
Zembroski and Peters are a few of many students at CP and across the state who have transferred for better opportunities and educational advantages. These students demonstrate how making difficult decisions to better one’s future is worth taking.
Transferring from one location to another can be challenging for players and families, but for these students, Crown Point has proved to have great opportunities for players and their futures. Not only have these teams proved to be welcoming and encouraging for these new players, they have helped to establish their future in sports.
