When on the influencer side of the internet, there can be a lot of “A Day in the Life” or “Get Ready with Me” videos. While mostly innocent, a lot of people who post their lives on the internet seem to erase the lazy side of their ever-busy lives.
Hustle culture tends to romanticize the idea of putting “the grind” before one’s personal needs. Online, a lot of people show their extra busy days where they go to the gym, school, work, their book club, the gym again, and in between all of that, they are meal prepping.
There is no problem with being busy. The problem is when people see these influencers and their busy lives and try to turn it into their everyday lifestyle, times ten. A lot of people forget that what is advertised on social media is not always exactly what is going on. The people who put their busy lives on display also have unproductive downtime and lazy days.
Trying to do as much as possible (and then some) every single day is how burnout occurs. For those all about the “rise and grind” mindset, the idea of improving physically or rising within their job is so important that they ignore their actual needs.
Staying committed to a goal is how they are accomplished, but there are better ways to go about it that are not harmful to the body and mind. If you try to gaslight yourself into thinking you can give 110% at all times, exhaustion will soon win over and it will be hard to get back on track to complete these goals.
Rather than trying to jam-pack everything into one day, try and spread goals out into a longer time period to see consistent progress.
