This month’s cover features the 2023 College and Career Fair. In light of the ongoing construction in Crown Point High School, Building Brighter Futures focuses on how students construct their own paths with the tools our school provides.

We also feature the behind-the-scenes of CPHS’s production of Mary Poppins, global and local heat waves, Fall Flavors, Assistant Principal Justin Fronek Returns to Crown Point, and much more.

Hayden Kay, Editor-in-Chief

Hayden Kay is a senior at Crown Point High School. Kay was on the Excalibur Yearbook staff for two years and served as the Website Manager her junior year. This is her first and last year on the Inklings staff and she is excited for the new challenge. When she's not in the J-Lab, Kay is the President of Key Club, President of Fashion Club, Vice President of NAHS, and a member of NHS. She plans to pursue Fashion Media at Indiana University.

Rylin Sherron, Multi-Media Chief Journalist

Rylin Sherron is a senior at Crown Point High School and is part of the Excalibur Yearbook and Inklings staff. Sherron has been involved in the school’s journalism program for four years, becoming copy editor and winning Writer of the Year in her sophomore and junior years. This year, Sherron took the title of Multi-Media Chief Journalist overseeing PR, Events, Social Media, and the Web. Outside of school, Sherron is involved in NHS and works for GreatNews.Life as a New Media Journalist. Sherron plans on majoring in journalism and forensic science, wanting to be an Investigative Journalist.

Emilee Lucht, Advanced Sports Editor & Crown Town Media Director

Emilee Lucht is a senior at Crown Point High School. This is Lucht’s third year on the Excalibur Yearbook staff. She is the Crown Town Media Director and the Advanced Sports Editor of the Excalibur Yearbook. She loves photography and the many different aspects that surround it. Lucht started taking pictures in 7th grade and continued from there. She not only loves taking pictures for school-related things but also senior pictures and portrait pictures. Other than yearbook, Lucht is involved in managing the Wrestling Team. She has been managing since her sophomore year and has been co-head manager since her junior year.

Annabella Angarone, Managing Editor

Annabella Angarone is a sophomore at Crown Point High School. This is her second year on the staff. She is the Managing Editor of the Inklings Newspaper. When she is not writing for Inklings, she takes part in the Aviation Club, Ballroom Dancing Club, Card Club, and Show Choir. Even though Angarone still has a few years before college, since she was 7 years old she has been working on screenplays for hopefully her future career.

Grace Cappas, Lead Writer

Grace Cappas is a junior at Crown Point High School. She took journalism as a freshman, and this is her second year on the Inklings staff. Besides her involvement on staff, she is also involved in National Honor Society and The Cure Club. Cappas plans on majoring in psychology and journalism in college.

Mason Erbini, Lead Writer and Business Manager

Mason Erbini is a junior at Crown Point High School. This is his second year being a Lead Writer on the Inklings Staff. This year, he also holds the position of Business Manager. Outside of Inklings, Erbini holds the responsibility of President of the Crown Point Business Professionals of America Chapter and Captain of the Speech and Debate Team. After high school, he intends to pursue a college major relating to Business.

Ashley Johnson, Editor-in-Chief

Ashley Johnson is a senior at Crown Point High School. This will be her third year on the Inklings Staff, and she is the Editor-in-Chief for the 2024-25 newspaper. Always the writer, she joined newspaper to further her love for writing and learning about the things around her. When she is not writing for the newspaper, she is normally busy with other classwork, doing her out-of-school band activities, playing guitar, or working at Strack and Van Til.

Katie Mahle, Print Design Manager

Katie Mahle is a senior at Crown Point High School. This is her fourth year going through the journalism program that the students are offered. She is the manager of design. While doing this she is also president of the Interact club at the High school, as well as being the leader for Windfall; a creative writing club that allows students to express their creativity. After college, she plans on going to Hawaii to take a gap year to study the bible and discover if nursing is really something that she would like to pursue in the future.

Avery Moore, Lead Copywriter and Manager

Avery Moore is a junior at Crown Point High School. This is her third year in the Inklings program. She mainly writes feature articles, and loves the editing process. She wants to go to college to major in Biology and become a pediatrician. She runs for the Cross Country team and Track team, alongside CASS and being a girl’s basketball manager.

Eris Pauley

Eris Pauley is a junior at Crown Point High School. She took photo journalism during her sophomore year falling inlove with the exciting world of Journalism. She enjoys writing and taking photos making the Newspaper a perfect combonation for her. In school she is involved with the Stray dogs club, an improv club run by Mrs. Zubbrigen. Having fun is her biggest passion with everything she does.

Maylani Velazquez, Social Media Editor

Maylani Velazquez is senior at Crown Point High Shool. This is her third year going through the journalism program. She decided to take Beginning Journalism her sophomore year and accelerated to be part of the Inklings team. She loves to meet new people and make connections. While she works in helping Inklings with Social Media platforms, she also works on working in different fields of media by doing film projects, photoshoots, and more for her portfolio. After high school, she plans to major in psychology at a Ministrial University.

Ma'Rae Wallace, Social Media Manager and Sports Manager

Ma’Rae Wallace is a junior at Crown Point High School. This year is her second year on the Inklings Staff. She is the Social Media Manager and Sports Manager. Her love for writing and exploration of new things led her to take journalism which later led to Inklings. When Wallace isn’t writing for Inklings dancing and singing outside of school and working toward her future. Wallace
