Joining sports can be life altering and experience enhancing. Jessica Harper (12) began golfing about nine years ago, and has not looked back since. From hours of practice, to time spent on courses; Harper has learned a lot about herself through joining golf.
The memories made over the years are innumerable, but Harper can recall one of her individual favorites.
“My favorite golf related memory was probably when over the summer, I chipped in for my first eagle I’d ever gotten during a tournament,” Harper said.
Although golf may seem like an individualized sport to some, Harper reminisces on her favorite memory as a team, and how the team impacted her.
“My favorite memory with the team was when we’d have practices at sandy pines and we played Scramble in groups,” Harper said.
Finding sports to join can be difficult for children, so parents begin to look into activities their child may enjoy. This is how Harper began golfing.
“My dad really wanted me to play and I had a lot of fun my first time on the course, even though I was really bad,” Harper said.
Multiple years, multiple seasons, and multiple teams. Every year comes with change, whether substantial, or miniscule. Harper elaborates on how the changes impact the team each year.
“New people mean new experiences and I love getting to know underclassmen. I like having new people to support and celebrate each year,” Harper said.
Overall, joining golf opened the door for many new opportunities for Harper. As a senior, this year was extra special for her, and every tournament taught her new things.
