Luckily, within the first five minutes of the pilot episode, it was a new found obsession. The show’s premise revolves around a girls high school soccer team who tries to navigate the troubles of the wilderness after a plane crash. Post crash and struggling to survive, the characters learn how to navigate life with newfound traumas. Although the switch between the perspectives of past and present memories can be confusing at times, the timeline was intriguing and engaging. The dystopian setting of the plane crash captures the realistic nature in which the show is trying to portray. The constant use of twists and turns helps to keep viewers waiting for more.
A personal favorite part was the flashbacks and insights into the character Natalie’s personal life. Understanding her traumatic backstory provided depth to her present experience and made her into more of a dynamic character than the others.
Moreover, seeing how each girl handled their trauma after being rescued was intriguing, especially once they finally started bringing in the supernatural aspect of the show. In all, this show really piqued my interest and it was a great watch. The slow integration of how each girl began to see the wilderness as its own being, and descended into madness was really interesting. This show is five out of five stars. “Yellowjackets” is available on both Netflix and Paramount Plus.
