Set in the fictional Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, the play follows the daily lives of ordinary people in a small town as guided by a Stage Manager who sets the scene for the audience. Divided into three acts, Daily Life, Love & Marriage and Death & Eternity, Our Town is a profound reflection on time, memory and the beauty of everyday moments.
Our Town was presented by CPHS Black Box Production on Friday April 10th through April 12th. Black Box Production is an extension of the CPHS Theatre department, which aims to provide students an opportunity to act in performances presented in the black box even when they are not selected for roles in the main stage shows.
“Every kid in the Black Box Productions is given stage time and lines so everyone gets part of the experience,” Director and English teacher, Dana Zurbriggen, said.
The performance was filled with both comedy and emotion. One of the reasons the play was a complete performance was due to the contrast of the subtle background and that contrast with the prominent emotion and action of the actors, allowing all humor to come across to the audience. As the play reflects on community and morality, Our Town leaves an impression, making the production entertaining as a whole.
