At the 2023 IHSAA State Championship, the Crown Point High School Gymnastics team made history for the second year in a row by taking home 3rd place with medals in four qualifications. Senior Charlotte Annes won the Mildred M. Ball Mental Attitude Award, making her the only other CPHS gymnast to have received this award since Martina Buchjolz in 2007. In addition to Annes’s big achievement, Junior Elly Kiran came out on top with a total of nine medals. Kiran placed as state runner-up on vault with a score of 9.625, 3rd on floor with a 9.475, 4th on bars with a 9.375, and was 5th all-around with a grand score of 37.45. Alongside Kiran stood Junior Alana Lockhart. Lockhart placed 11th on bars, 12th on floor, and 14th all-around with a grand score of 35.675. Placing 3rd on beam, Senior Ysabel Maunes finished 11th all-around with a grand score of 8.975. Sophomore Leah Fenner finished out with a 9.05 and better on all three events and placed 12th on bars. Senior Sydney Reissman had finished out the competition and her career as a gymnast with an 8.95 on her floor and vault routines. The team finished out an exciting season with a police escort back home, marking their second year making state history.
