    Pageants: Promoting Perfection or Problems?
    Pageantry+pro+con
    Library of Congress

    Pro – Avery Moore

Pageants provide an opportunity for women of all ages to showcase their talents and empower other women. Pageantry gives women a chance to be role models for young girls. When people watch these pageants, they are able to truly recognize the inherent talent that all women possess. When you give these women a chance to show their intelligence, beauty, and poise, it gives younger girls something to aspire to. These aspirations have the potential to become reality, and thus creates a world full of goal-oriented women who have the ability to become whatever they set their minds to.

    Con – Evangeline Montanez

Pageants are nothing more than an opportunity for beautiful women to increase social standards and make life harder for their more normal counterparts. These pageants, showcases of what society deems, “beautiful,” or “talented,” at the time, do nothing more than help sexism prosper and cause harm to the masses. While the women themselves may be smart, kind, or any of the above, these pageants ignore these values in favor of showcasing the more shallow aspects of a person. In conclusion, these pageants are not only harmful to the young girls consuming this media, but are also costly to the progression of women’s rights.
