The Crown Point High School’s Latin Club, Certamen, competed in an Invitational competition. The Certamen Club teams competed at the Floralia Certamen Invitational at Homestead High School. Our Certamen Club sent three teams to the Indiana Junior Classical League (IJCL) invitational. While the Certamen Club was at the invitational, Crown Point was rewarded the Helen Wampler Spirit Award.
Certamen Club is a club that is broken up into three different levels: Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each level has one or more teams that work, learn, and compete against other teams in Indiana. The Certamen groups answered questions about Roman History, Greek/Roman Mythology, Roman Culture, Geography, Greek/Latin Literature, the Latin Language, and Latin Grammar.
The two teams at the novice level placed third and fourth in their competitions and the Intermediate team placed at 2nd.
The third-place novice team consisted of Noah Kubik, Rowan Powers, and Joe Williams.
The fourth-place novice team consisted of Addison Kerkes, Damien Lozano, and Jeremy Yancy.
The intermediate solo that placed second was Annie Jacobi.
The Certamen club is going to be competing at the Indiana Certamen Teams at the National Junior Classical League (NJCL) National Convention on July 21 through the 25.
