On May 2, 2026 there was a report of a hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean. The type of virus has been identified as the Andes virus which can cause hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, also known as HPS. This is known to be a deadly virus that attacks the lungs. Currently, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has responded and is working on getting the Americans on board, off safely.
“I’m really glad the CDC is working hard to protect the Americans on board the ship and help avoid another breakout like COVID,” freshman Ruby Wolfe said.
There have been no outbreaks in America since this incident has been revealed so other traveling can continue without interruption. Right now, the CDC and the U.S. government is working to get all passengers off safely and get the virus under control.
