Crown Point High School recently held its first-ever Multicultural Fair Night on April 24, 2025. This event displayed multiple different cultures and was meant to highlight all of the unique and diverse members of the Crown Point community. Foods from all around the world, dances and music from all different types of cultures and cultural booths were all set up.
Many Crown Point High School students and teachers played a huge role in making this event a success. Heidi Marek, German teacher and sponsor of the German Club at CPHS, helped run the German booth.
“I love showing people the unique aspects of different cultures,” Marek said. “German culture is more than stereotypical Lederhosen and Oktoberfest. Some things that people don’t know about German culture are that it has a variety of vibrant holidays, regional dialects and ancient mythology. I love showing others what I love about German-speaking culture. They get to “try on” a snapshot of other places.”
Learning about other cultures is imperative in our day and age. “Learning about other cultures makes a person more tolerant and open-minded to trying new things. It helps people because they become more understanding, especially when faced with difficult issues or uncomfortable situations,” said Marek.
Ultimately, the city of Crown Point had a great time at this event. Sharing cultures from all around the world, especially when many are even present in Crown Point itself, helps create a community where more people are educated about one another and can appreciate each other more than ever.
This event will hopefully continue to occur at CPHS where cultures will be shared for years to come.
