Recently, Indiana introduced new and improved patrol cars. The new Dodge Durango and the return of the Ford Mustang will now be rolling on the streets. The state of Indiana announced these new additions on Tuesday, November 10, 2025. Up to 20 new troopers will receive first pick of the Dodge Durangos as well as 5 Mustangs specifically assigned to primary areas, including Central Indiana, Fort Wayne, Northwest Indiana, Evansville and Sellersburg.
From 1966 to 1998, the vehicles featured an all-white design. Between 1998 and 2006, the design changed to all black, and from 2006 to 2025, it returned to all white. The newest vehicles introduce a blue-and-white design, which is the first major change in approximately 60 years.
“While the color scheme is a salute to our past, it’s also a bridge to the future of the Indiana State Police and a future that each one of you will help forge,” Superintendent Anthony Scott said.
The Ford Mustangs are heavily used for road rage incidents, reckless driving and illegal street races. However, since the Mustang is not fit for harsh weather, that is for the Dodge Durango.
