Last weekend, over 125 Crown Point students participated in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Regional competition. During this competition, participants complete a plethora of different tasks: presenting slideshow presentations, giving speeches and even taking tests.
The Regional competition allows for students to prepare for their upcoming competition, and makes it so that only the best of the best may advance to the next level. “Regionals serve as a foundation for students to get critiques in order to better prepare for the state competition,” senior BPA Chapter President Ari Bariktaris said.
The BPA team saw great success at the Regional level, with immense growth of the number of people advancing to the next level. “We had over 100+ state qualifiers this year,” senior Vice President of Communications and Fundraising Jake Baumann said. “To put this into perspective, there were only 50 members my freshman year. It is so surreal seeing the sheer size of our club and how we’ve accommodated this growth to truly prepare future business professionals of America.”
Advancing to the state level is, percentage wise, not simple. In order to advance, one must be better than nearly every competitor. “Being a member of BPA requires that students work diligently to compete in their chosen events to beat the scores of those in our region so that they can compete at the state level,” Chapter Advisor Mary Bachnak said. “ The top seven scores in tested events and the top three in presentation events qualify for the state leadership conference.”
The club has seen great growth recently, with more people competing than ever before. This growth has allowed for an even greater chance at team success. “Competing was fun, but specifically it’s watching the growth of the club that makes it special,” senior Thelma Morales said. “Being able to witness how many people have joined this year, and the impact that has had on our team as a whole, was just incredible.”
Overall, competitors at the recent BPA competition fought for their spot at the state level. There are over 100 qualifiers from Crown Point High School who will compete against 2,000 other BPA members in downtown Indianapolis, March 8 through March 10.
