CPHS seniors and parents are invited to attend a FAFSA Completion Night on Thursday, January 22nd, at 5:30pm in the SGI room. Expected to last one hour, this session provides senior and parents access to experts at INvestEd, an Indiana firm that assists families in planning their children’ s higher education for free. These experts will help answer any questions that students or parents have.
Starting with the class of 2024, every single student in Indiana is required to file the FAFSA their senior year of high school. If they do not wish to file the FAFSA, they must sign an Opt-Out form through their high school counselor. The point behind this mandate is to allow students who may not even know they are eligible for free student aid from the government or an institution to receive that aid. “The law aims to address millions of dollars in federal and state aid that previously went unclaimed by Indiana students,” counselor Kim Swan said. “This ensures all students and parents understand their options before graduating.”
Students who have not yet filed the FAFSA are heavily encouraged to attend, especially if they have questions about the process. INvestEd recommends attendees bring a personal laptop or school-issued Chromebook so that they can offer better assistance.
