Dual Credit U.S. History, AP Government, and Sociology, Michael Bazin teaches them all. These advanced classes come with numerous responsibilities as a teacher, such as providing students with the proper resources to reach their goals.
Crown Point sets generally high expectations to help their students succeed. Bazin works to set standards in his classroom that will lead students to achieve their individual goals.
“I think we have high expectations for students, so I feel like just maintaining expectations on a daily basis, getting through content, and making sure my kids do well is my main priority,” Bazin said.
Each teacher sets their own individual environment for their classroom. For Bazin, his main goal is to bring students to success while still having fun and enjoyable experiences.
“My main responsibilities are to help my students understand the contents, while keeping things fun, and help them earn dual credits and pass their AP exams,” Bazin said. “I feel like relating to students helps [create a positive environment] the best. Maintaining and rewarding positive behavior, I feel, ends up decreasing negative behavior.”
Bazin has had a passion for soccer ever since he started playing himself, so when the opportunity came to him, he became a soccer coach.
“I grew up playing soccer. I played a little bit of college soccer, and upon getting a job here, I interviewed with the soccer coach at the time. They brought me in as an assistant coach and then I took over being the head coach,” Bazin said. “I like seeing experience in my players and having successes.”
Outside of Bazin’s work life, he spends his time helping his kids, and during his free time he engages in hobbies, specifically ones he can participate in outdoors.
“When I am not here, I run my children around to all their different things. Personally, I like both ball golf and disc golf, and I’m a pretty avid outdoorsman; I do a lot of fishing.
When not helping his kids or participating in his hobbies, Bazin prioritizes his students’ success both on the field and in the classroom.
