Chemistry teacher Kristi Pawlus has been teaching at Crown Point for about twelve years and had numerous different experiences along the way.
Pawlus makes an effort to create a relationship with every student she meets throughout her career. She also utilizes her teaching ability to help students determine what they want to do with the rest of their lives.
“I love the kids, I love building relationships with the kids and getting to know them and helping them in multiple ways that aren’t just chemistry,” Pawlus said. “Like helping them find out what they want to do with the rest of their life, finding what their strengths are.”
Every classroom entails a different experience with different students, and each student faces individual challenges. Pawlus finds that dealing with these challenges is the hardest part of her daily job.
“The most challenging part is probably dealing with kids with bad behaviors, ones that act out, and the way that I deal with that is that I get to know them and I see why they are acting out. It’s usually because they are seeking attention elsewhere,” Pawlus said. “And it’s a lot of times that it turns into one of the best things because you see them completely change their lives around.”
Outside of the classroom, Pawlus has two kids whom she makes her top priority. She spends her time creating memories with her kids.
“I have two little boys, one is five, and the other one is one, and I love going to the beach with them, and going to look at the stars,” Pawlus said. “We do lots of fun things together. So I love being with them.”
As a teacher, Pawlus makes her main priority creating an individual bond with each student. Outside of the classroom, her priority is creating memories with her kids.
