The boys wrestling team places fourth at State

February 20 and 21, the boys wrestling team competed at the IHSAA Boys State Finals. The team traveled to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to wrestle. There were 11 out of 14 wrestlers who qualified to wrestle at the State Finals. During day 1 of the State Finals, six out of 11 of the wrestlers advanced to day 2. The team had six state placers, and two of the six wrestlers became State Champions. Junior, Clinton Shepherd, was ranked first in the state all season and became a State Champ in the 150 weight class by getting a major decision. This was Shepherd’s second time placing at State. Sophomore Ceasar Salas was also ranked first in the state for his weight class all season and became a State Champ in the 215 weight class by getting a regular decision. Salas is also a two-time state placer. The wrestling team as a whole got third place at the State Finals.

Isabella Valenzuela is a senior at CPHS. This is Valenzuela’s fourth year on the Excalibur staff. Valenzuela is Co-Editor-in-Chief for Excalibur Yearbook. Valenzuela appreciates the design and photography aspects of yearbook. She enjoys going to different games and taking photos. Outside of being in yearbook, Valenzuela is a part of Student Council and manages wrestling. Valenzuela plans on majoring in Biochemistry in college.

Dannii Bukovic, Excalibur Staff

Dannii Bukovic is a junior at Crown Point High School. This is Bukovic’s second year on the Excalibur staff. Bukovic took photojournalism in her sophomore year, and was convinced by a friend from yearbook to join. Bukovic joined yearbook to capture moments through photo taking and writing stories about those photos taken. Outside of yearbook, Bukovic is a football manager for the football team at CPHS and plays travel softball.
