Two seasons ago, Indiana University’s (IU) football team had a record of 1-8. In the biggest turnaround seen by a college football team in decades, IU ended this season with an undefeated record of 16-0, winning its first ever college football national championship in school history.
Tight end and linebacker Trevor Gibbs from CPHS will be playing football for the Hoosiers this coming fall and has begun training with them since the beginning of this semester. “For me, playing college football is a blessing because I get to continue to do what I love most,” Gibbs said. “At IU, the fans and community support towards the program is big. Also, the sacrifices and commitments that the staff makes day in and day out makes IU feel like a special place.”
The Hoosiers’ success is greatly attributed to the hiring of their head coach Curt Cignetti. Deemed as a “turnaround specialist,” he has historically transformed football programs like IU and James Madison into winners. It is his “process-over-results” mindset that he instills within his team that makes them so successful.
Just last year, Cignetti signed an eight-year contract extension with IU, and he will be coaching through the 2033 season.
