On February 27, students departed from Crown Point High School for the Crowne Plaza in Indianapolis to attend the Key Club District Leadership Convention. The Key Club DLC is an annual event hosted by the Indiana District Key Club. At the event, students participated in leadership conferences, service projects and events aimed at shaping them into better community servants.
Building on the conference’s leadership focus, students participated in a variety of service projects, ranging from creating bracelets for local libraries to assembling paper roses and gift baskets for those in need. These activities not only supported local communities but also reinforced the importance of service as a pillar of Key Club’s values.
The convention also recognized outstanding achievements among students and schools across Indiana. Crown Point High School was awarded a UNICEF patch for raising over $250 for Trick or Treat UNICEF, highlighting the club’s impact and commitment to service. Additionally, senior Isabel Schilling received the award Distinguished LTG 2025-2026 from District Governor Sweet Night for her outstanding performance on the board, honoring her dedication and leadership within Indiana Key Club, and was awarded for her work on the club’s UNICEF poster.
As the trip came to a close, many seniors reflected on their experience. Senior Keewa Yu, CPHS Key Club vice-president, highlighted that “Key Club moment” was at the DLC Gov. Ball, saying, “It’s a dance where everyone gets together to have fun, so I looked forward to that the whole trip.”
Senior Ioanna Zembillas stated that her experience at DLC was fun, “We were able to contribute to a greater cause, and I had a lot of fun the whole weekend.” She also noted that “I love the community because they are always positive and welcoming towards all members.”
Whether it was recognition of the service or enjoyment, the weekend served as a closing chapter for not just these seniors but many members of Key Club.
