Shoe Drive Extended!

Shoe+Drive+Extended%21

Crown Point High School’s Shoe Drive is extended!

The CPHS Dance Team’s fundraiser, funded by Funds2Orgs, has been extended to be able to collect more shoes. Parent boosters of the team are ecstatic to run this amazing shoe drive. “Funds2Orgs collects new and used shoes and supplies them to individuals in third world countries who are motivated to start a ‘micro-enterprise’ in shoe sales,” said parent boosters of the dance team. “This fundraiser is a win-win because the donated shoes and micro-businesses help the families in third world countries get out of poverty & become self-sustaining.”

Additionally, this helps reduce waste produced by throwing out old shoes. According to Funds2Orgs, 2.4 Billion shoes are purchased each year worldwide and 300 million are thrown away in the United States alone. Sneakers typically take about 35-40 years to break down in a landfill. Therefore, donating old shoes is important as it will give them a good use once again.

Donating these shoes and giving them to people who are in desperate need of them does not just help the environment and people in need; it also helps out the dance team. Funds2Orgs will be paying the team $0.40 per pound of shoes donated. To meet the fundraising minimum, they must collect 100 bags of shoes, each containing 25 pairs. If they fill more than 160 bags, they will be paid $0.50 per pound.

Any students, parents, or staff members may donate shoes in the bin next to the Main Office near the front entrance of the building. According to the parent boosters, the shoes must be “Clean-ish. We will accept shoes even if the laces are missing, but we cannot accept shoes with holes.”

Flip-flops, sneakers, high heels, cleats, golf shoes, tap shoes, snow shoes, and baby shoes will all be accepted. Support the dance team, the environment, and help out people in third-world countries by donating to the Shoe Drive!
