Being in Mock Trial has been a constant for Dalia Aman (11) since her freshman year. Aman first joined because she wanted to help her sister out with starting a club.
“I originally went into Mock Trial in my freshman year, but we didn’t compete. I first joined it because my sister started the club, but I do actually like it and I have a lot of fun,” Aman said.
Even though Aman didn’t compete in her first year, she did the two years after that. Being able to engage in debates and argue is one of Aman’s favorite things about Mock Trial.
“One of my favorite moments was getting objected to for being a hostile witness because I refused to give one of the lawyers an answer,” Aman said.
Preparing and making sure Aman has everything ready to compete is something she makes sure to thoroughly go over. Spending time memorizing her witness’s statement can also be challenging but is achievable for Aman.
“I mostly memorize the direct and repeat it to myself over and over again. Then, knowing the direct is basically everything, I just make sure to read the statement over and over. [For prep before a competition] I read over my direct [statement] because it has everything I need,” Aman said.
In conclusion, Mock Trial has its challenging moments for Aman but she has been able to find the fun in it.
