Ashka Shah (9) takes classes that will help her gain knowledge for her future job. Shah is taking honors English 9, Journalism, and is in the Speech and Debate club to help her plan her future.

Shah wants to be a Criminal Defense Lawyer when she is older. She has wanted to be a criminal defense lawyer for four years now. Shah feels that the courses she is taking give her a big step toward achieving that future.

“I’m taking English 9 honors and journalism, I’m in speech and debate, because I want to be a lawyer, and to be a lawyer, I need to be good at arguing and writing,” Shah said.

Shah spends her time at school every day working towards reaching her goal and making sure that she does as well as possible in school. She works hard every day and works hard after school hours.

“I’m in speech and debate, and my favorite part is socializing with others after going against them at tournaments,” Shah said.

Shah wants to have justice for people; she wants them to have fair chances in court and make sure that they have every chance at a fair trial. She wants everyone to have the justice that they deserve.

“I wanna be a criminal defense lawyer because there are so many people who are found guilty even when they’re not guilty in reality, and with an amazing lawyer, they could have the freedom that they deserve,” Shah said. The money that criminal defense lawyers get paid is also a really good amount, so I would be getting a  good amount of money while helping people every day.”

Even though Shah has a pretty clear plan of what she wants to do, she still faces many challenges trying to make it happen.

“I face many challenges while trying to work towards my goals. One of the challenges I face is making sure that my AP and honors grades stay the best that they can all the time,” Shah said. “I really enjoy having those types of classes, so I always want to make sure that my grades are good, sometimes it isn’t easy though.”

In all, Shah works very hard everyday to try and accomplish her goal of becoming a criminal defense lawyer. This year her classes and her determination has been her biggest help up to having this become a reality for her. AP and honors classes have been a big step up to helping her, making sure that she keeps her grades up has been really helpful to teaching her responsibility.
