Involved in wrestling both at school and outside of school, Jake Hall (10) has a strong passion and loves what he does.
Jake has been involved in wrestling since he moved to Crown Point in seventh grade, and since then, he has fallen in love with the sport and cherishes the people who made him start his journey.
“I started wrestling in seventh grade when I first moved here,” Hall said. “We were trying to find another sport for me instead of just basketball. My dad influenced the decision a lot, and so did my coaches, which I knew before I even started. They both said I should start, and I listened. I ended up falling in love with it, and I’m so glad I got into it. Numerous coaches have grown my love for the sport, like Coach Boswell, Coach Alvin, and Coach Hawk. It genuinely has made my life so much better, and I’ve met so many good people out of it,” Hall said
Wrestling can teach different lessons in life. One of the biggest things, though, according to Hall, is how to control your emotions.
“Wrestling has taught me how to control my emotions,” Hall said. “Between getting hurt and losing time to time, you learn that not everything is going to go your way. That also helps a lot in school because when I’m stressed about my work, I focus on not getting overwhelmed and more on staying calm.”
Wrestling is not just about the matches; it is also about the experiences and routines that make the competition unique.
“My favorite part of wrestling is the away matches,” Hall said. “We get to show up early and get home late and it’s basically just wrestling all day and it’s really fun and relaxing for me because wrestling is my comfort sport. To prepare I put my headphones on, stretch a bit, listen to music and pace around the mat and focus on who I’m wrestling and their tactics.”
Listening to music can help calm one down right before a match, but also pump one up.
“I don’t have a specific song I listen to but I mostly listen to rap,” Hall said. “Rap is something that just makes you wanna win and feel like what the song is talking about. A few of the artists I listen to are Polo G, Future and Travis Scott.”
Overall, Hall adores wrestling and is grateful he started. He can’t wait to continue it throughout the rest of his high school career and maybe even into college.
