Sanders has been working at the high school as a cafeteria staff member for three years. During this time, Sanders works to provide all the necessities students may need during their lunch hour.
Lunch ladies in the school do a lot more than students can see; they have to follow certain rules and accomplish many tasks throughout the day.
“Some of my tasks include cashiering and being in charge of the register, meaning counting your money, and making sure you’re charging students the right amount,” Sanders said. “Also, making sure you know how to post when you put money in their account, because at the end of the day, we have to balance and complete these tasks smoothly and correctly.””
Completing these tasks requires motivation; for Sanders, her motivation is the students and the business that comes throughout the day.
“I love the students here, I don’t have grandchildren, so I look at the kids like they are my own grandchildren,” Sanders said. “I like to treat the students the way I would want my children to be treated. I also like that it’s busy, that’s one of the things I like about the high school, the day goes so fast.”
Outside of the workplace, Sanders enjoys working on her hobbies and interests, including swimming, walking, and spending quality time with family.
“I love to walk, in fact, people will see me walking around town, I’m a big walker. I love to swim at the YMCA, and I love to read,” Sanders said. “Those are probably my three favorite things to do. I also love talking to my kids, who are all grown up.”
Overall, Sanders dedicates her time to preserving students’ happiness during their lunch hours, completes all necessary tasks throughout the day, and still manages to have time for all of her hobbies.
