Ms. Kaniewski talks about balancing coaching and teaching

Math teacher and girls volleyball co-coach, Anna Kaniewski, has a lot to balance. Handling all these students may be a struggle for some, but for Kaniewski, it’s a privilege.

“I love to see all my students and athletes grow and change throughout the year,” Kaniewski said. “Especially with teaching a sophomore class, I see them change the most.”

Kaniewski finds many ways to set her and her students up for success for the year. As for coaching, Kaniewski is able to juggle both.

“The thing about the fall sports season is that it’s the shortest athletic season. I’m able to balance both teaching and coaching because while school starts out slow, volleyball speeds up,” Kaniewski said.

While balancing multiple roles, it’s important to find ways to decompress. For Kaniewski, destressing includes relaxation.

“My favorite thing to do when I’m not working is probably to just go home and watch a movie and relax on my couch. I usually put on a comedy or something I don’t need to pay attention to,” Kaniewski said.

Kaniewski has different goals and ways of approaching her teaching and her coaching; however, her motto remains the same.

I just try to support my kids and make sure they’re growing. I want them to stay kind and always be curious,” Kaniewski said.

Throughout her years coaching and teaching, Kaniewski has learned to balance both roles with support for her students and herself.
