Risch talks about the joys of community service and helping students with Robotics

Outside of school, Matillda Risch (11) volunteers in her community. Risch has logged over one hundred community service hours with Crown Point High School. Outside of the hours she has logged, Risch has an additional two hundred fifty community service hours.

Risch started getting hours when she joined many different clubs; the clubs helped her to work with the community more and give a helping hand when needed. One club specifically that helped Risch to assist the community more was Key Club.

“Volunteering at various places in our community and key club got me more hours,” Risch said.

Out of all the places Risch has volunteered at, the one that speaks to her the most is helping younger students with Robotics during competition day.

“One of my favorites is going back to my middle school to help with Robotics competitions,” Risch said.

Volunteering at robotics wasn’t a decision Risch made herself; her friends had a big part in her starting to volunteer at the competitions. Even though at first Risch was not up for it, she is glad that her friends gave her a push to do it.

“I kind of got dragged into it by my friends, and now I just love going back and seeing the whole community,” Risch said.

Risch loves to see how the kids’ mindsets grow and change during the years they do robotics.

“It’s just crazy seeing some of the kids that may have started out as 3rd or 4th graders, and now they are 8th graders,” Risch said.

Matillda Risch’s community is a big part of her life, and volunteering helps her give back to her community. Since Risch is only a junior, she has many more opportunities to volunteer within her community.
