Wind ensemble, choral, marching band, and music advocate, Caden Daniels (12), has had a strong connection with music since he was young. Daniels felt a strong connection to listening and making music. Daniels feels that music has a deep impact on people and can help them in many different ways.
Daniels has always enjoyed trying new things. In elementary school, Daniels tried theater, dance, and singing. When he tried doing music, that’s when it clicked for him. Music helped him regulate his emotions and express himself as a whole.
“I have always loved singing from when I was little to now. I am very passionate about music. I always had an interest in music, just that feeling of wanting to try something new,” Daniels said. “In elementary school, I would do a lot of things like dance and theater, but music has always been that thing that has always been my passion. I always liked dance and theater, but I never stuck with it like I did with music. ”
Daniels had always wanted to join a choir and enjoyed singing. Once he went into his freshman year at Crown Point High School, he wanted to join the choir so he could get better at singing and pursue it after college. One of the reasons he is a part of the choir is because of his friends and the environment.
“One of my favorite aspects of choir is my peers. It’s amazing what all of us can do if we put our minds to it. For example, the harmonies blend together and sound as one group, which gives me goosebumps. The way we pour our heart and soul into our music to show our emotion to the audience. It’s just amazing what we can do together and accomplish,” Daniels said.
Another one of Daniel’s high school music careers is marching band; he enjoys the music, harmonies, and his peers. Another one of his favorite parts about marching band is how it teaches time management and teamwork. In marching band camp, he is one of the leaders, so he is helping people who are still learning. He enjoys helping people through music.
“I feel like I can really help people, all while doing something I love. For example when we performed Illuminare for my choir concert it brought everyone together. Events such as this have made me want to do music therapy as my major,” Daniels said.
Overall, when Daniels graduates from high school, he wants to go to college and major in music therapy. Daniels’ music journey is getting him to help others with music, like music helped him.
