Graduation Coach Adrian Richie

Richie discusses his experience as a teacher and graduation coach
Graduation Coach Adrian Richie

Crown Point High School comes with a wide variety of faculty members that range from teachers to custodians to counselors to graduation coaches.

One of these graduation coaches, Adrian Richie, takes the responsibility of working with students who need help passing classes. Richie is responsible for those whose last names are A-Fan in the alphabet.

“We’ll look for tutors, and we have a couple things going on, labs for one thing, during their study halls. They can go and work with adult tutors, or on Thursday, during resource, they get to come in and work with us and peer tutors. It’s kind of a neat position that you don’t find in very many schools,” Richie said.

Not only is Richie a graduation coach at the high school, but he also teaches courses at Indiana University, Northwest. There, Richie belongs to the education department where he works with student teachers while also teaching two health classes.

“At IUN, I’m in the education department, so I usually work with student teachers, and then I also work with the adult program, the teachers that are training to be principals. Right now, I have two health classes that I’m teaching, and my favorite class is called Introduction to College for freshmen. It’s a great class,” Richie said.

Richie also takes pride in creating a positive environment for his co-workers and students.

“I’ve always had this attitude that you have to say hello to everybody, you have to give everybody a smile. Every creature you meet should be met with a smile. I’ve always believed that. It’s that attitude that you always have to be what you want other people to be. If I want other people to be positive and happy, I have to be positive and happy,” Richie said.

Not only does Richie work at Crown Point High School and IUN, he also worked at many other high schools in the area.

“I was a principal for 23 years. I was at Lowell, Lake Central, Hanover Central, I was in Gary, and I was in Fort Wayne for eight years,” Richie said.

Richie’s passion and commitment for his work reflect upon his relationship with his fellow faculty members and students, creating an environment of positivity and collaboration.
