Miljevic discuses his hobbies outside of the work place

Nicholas Miljevic is a ninth grade biology teacher and coaches the JV soccer team at Crown Point High School. Miljevic’s favorite things to do are watching sports and coaching soccer. Miljevic coached soccer a long time before he came to teach at Crown Point.

“I love being the JV coach because I get to coach new student athletes every year,” Miljevic said. “I get to know the students, and it’s fun to get to find out how they’re unique in their own way.”

Coaching soccer is not the only thing Milijevic enjoys doing outside of school. He also enjoys watching high school, college, and professional basketball. Most of the time, preferring it [basketball] over the sport of soccer.

“It was my first love growing up, and I fell in love with the Chicago Bulls at a very young age, and it’s just kind of stuck with me,” Miljevic said.

Milijevic approaches teaching biology in a different way in order to gain the interest of his students. Most students come into biology with a negative mindset and Milijevic likes to use his methods of teaching to turn their opinions to a positive one.

“I try to be kind of a little lighthearted in terms of how I structure my classes and understanding my freshmen,” Milijevic said. “When I do labs, I try to show them a different side, not just to myself, but to science in general.”

To conclude, Milijevic loves to coach soccer not only for the love of the game but for the students and getting to know them, even though his love for basketball surpasses his for soccer. He also tries to understand his students, in how challenging science can be, and using his fun tactics to change their minds on the subject.
