Smith discusses her experience with teaching and CPHS
Teacher Jolene Smith

Jolene Smith has been a French and DC Pre-Calculus teacher at Crown Point High School for 10 years. Smith is also responsible for an out-of-country trip to France that is held every two years, allowing students to experience another part of the world.

Besides being a teacher, Smith spends time with her granddaughter. She enjoys spending time with her.

“I spend a lot of time with my five-year-old granddaughter and doing five-year-old things,” Smith said.

More so, Smith considers the best aspect of CPHS to be the students. She believes everyone is brought together because of it.

“The students are an important aspect of Crown Point because I feel that Crown Point High School is a family, with the admissions, the teachers, and the students,” Smith said.

Smith has faced a challenge while working at Crown Point High School. Mainly because she has not been involved with Crown Point as much as she’d like to.

“I think not living in the community is a little bit challenging. It’s not as easy to get to students after school because of after school, or weekend activities.”

However, Smith always tries to keep a positive and respectful environment. She never doubts to put her students first in every situation.

“It starts with the teacher being positive, and having a passion for what they teach and adoring their students, and the students interactment towards the class,” Smith said.

Most importantly, Smith enjoys working with her students and loves what she does. She enjoys being a part of CPHS daily and helping students succeed to the fullest.

“My students are the reason I enjoy my job. Whenever anybody that is not affiliated with Crown Point High School asks me about my job, I say that I absolutely adore my students and the two subjects I teach,” Smith said.

Overall, Smith enjoys teaching because of the well-paced environment and setting a positive attitude for the community. She puts her students first without a doubt in any situation, as they are her number one priority to her.
