Sponsored by the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP), with questions generated by the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT), Quiz Bowl at Crown Point High School is a club filled with fun, trivia, and an environment where students compete against one another in trivia-style questions. With question disciplines ranging from music, history, art, science, math, and many more, students are required to seek out knowledge in about every discipline that exists. In nature, students who take part in Quiz Bowl are very curious students who wish to learn about everything.
“Answering trivia is a fun way to learn all different types of knowledge,” senior Cece Chenore said. “My favorite part of Quiz Bowl is the competitive aspect of the club, and just the educational nature it creates between students.”
Mr. Smith has been the sponsor of the Quiz Bowl team at Crown Point High School for many years now. ”As an English teacher, I don’t always get to see the aggregate of all the learning happening across 7 class periods,” Mr. Smith said. “Quiz Bowl lets me see the product of all the teaching and learning happening at CPHS across disciplines.”
Due to members’ deep love for learning, Mr. Smith’s favorite part of the activity is being able to work with the students who join the club. “The typical Quiz Bowl competitor loves learning for the sake of learning—not for points, not for accolades, but because the world around us is infinitely fascinating and worthy of knowing.”
For the 2025 season, the team currently sits at a record of 4-1, having dropped 1 match to Andrean. They meet on Monday after school for practice until 3:30, and compete on some Tuesdays after school where they attend competitions at schools around Northwest Indiana.
