Prom is an annual event that many upperclassmen look forward to. Most pay attention to the event itself, but what about the efforts put into having the perfect prom beforehand?
In the weeks leading up to prom, attendees put much of their time into creating romantic promposals, finding the proper attire, and some students even give their hours to making the dance’s theme come to life with beautiful decor.
With event preparations being greatly overlooked, it is essential to shed light on the hard work students put into making their prom perfection.
Picture Perfect Promposals
Some people dream of being asked to prom, but the creativity used to construct the ideal promposal curated to a partner’s interests is overlooked.
Much thought goes into the creation of a promposal. “For my promposal, I had my girlfriend do an easter egg hunt,” junior Rogan Teller said. There were words inside of the eggs, and then she had to solve a puzzle.”
While many appreciate the sweet gesture of the promposal itself, most look at the time and effort put into the project. “It took about four to five hours to make the promposal,” Teller said. “I had to write the words out and then hide all of the eggs.”
Promposals set the tone for one’s unforgettable night at prom, and the creativity of each and every promposal makes for special moments.
Picking Impeccable Promwear
Many would argue that the most important aspect of prom is deciding on the perfect attire.
Dressing up for an event such as prom is a rare occasion to some, and finding the perfect dress or outfit can raise feelings of confidence. “It’s pretty important to find the perfect prom dress,” junior Allison Young said. “It makes or breaks how confident you feel and how excited you are to go to prom.”
Not only does finding the attire that makes one shine bright matter at prom, but the memories formed in the moment matter just as much. “I bought my dress online, so my favorite memory is when I put it on for the first time,” junior Roxanne Magtira said. “I really enjoyed it and love the beading and details of my dress.”
Bonds can also be strengthened by finding the dresswear with loved ones. “My mom was very happy with the dress I picked, she said she thought I looked pretty in it,” Young said. “It really boosted my confidence.”
The perfect dress can provoke happy feelings, but to some, the most important thing is making core memories with one’s close friends. “I think it’s pretty important to find the right dress, but I think that the most important thing is being out with my friends and enjoying what’s happening at the moment,” Magtira said.
Designing the Dancefloor
While left frequently unnoticed, prom decorations are one of the most important elements of making prom feel special. A group of hardworking students come together each year to make essential adornments.
While time consuming, members of the team are passionate about the yearly project. “I really do enjoy prom preparations,” junior Ava Breitkreutz said. “While it can be really stressful, being able to work in a group of people who share the same interest in designing is really enjoyable. We all get to put our ideas together and come up with something that we all are a part of.”
The process of decorating for prom takes many months when taking into account the planning and lengthy set up processes.
Due to the considerable amount of time the designers put into making prom a beautiful setting for all to enjoy, everything coming together brings immense feelings of joy to the team. “My favorite part of designing the setting for prom is finally getting all the stuff set up and seeing it all come together,” Breitkreutz said.
All in all, prom preparations take a reasonable amount of time, for most, this hard work all becomes worth it when arriving at the event. From promposals and apparel shopping to even the most minute details of dancefloor design, the events leading up to prom are what make the night so dear. Prom is widely recognized as a staple of high school life, and is treated as such.
