On May 6, 2023, the Crown Point Wind Ensemble competed at the ISSMA State Qualifying competition at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis. The State Qualifying competition is open to all High School bands in which they all have the opportunity to compete at four different sites around the State. Throughout the whole State, there were just over 50 bands that chose to compete. For the Ensemble to compete, they had to prepare two songs from a list that was chosen by the directors, choose a third song of their choice, and then proceed to compete in the sight reading competition. They were evaluated by three judges for their performance on stage, and one judge for their sight reading. After all four sites had competed, the scores were added up and the bands were ranked throughout the entire state; only the top 16 bands get to advance to the State Finals. In the end, the CPHS Wind Ensemble placed 13th out of the 16 bands and broke their record from the 2017 ISSMA State Competition. Congratulations to all who had competed and shown your support this week!
