Easy, Delicious homemade country dish.

Ground Beef and Gravy over Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

For the Ground Beef Gravy:

1 pound ground beef

1 medium onion diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

1 teaspoons thyme (optional)

1 cup frozen peas and carrots optional

For the mashed potatoes:

2 pounds potatoes,peeled and quartered

½ cup milk

¼ cup butter

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Prepare mashed potatoes: In a large pot, cover the potatoes with water and bring to a boil. Cook until they are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return the potatoes to the pot. Add milk and butter, mashing until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and set aside to keep warm.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until the onions are soft and translucent.
  3. Make Gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the cooked beef and onions, stirring to combine. Cook for 2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste. Gradually stir in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme (if using, salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and let gravy thicken, about 5 minutes. If using, add the frozen peas and carrots, until they are heated through.
  4. Serve: Spoon the creamy mashed potatoes onto plates or into bowls. Top with the hearty ground beef gravy. Serve hot
