Wrestling is a sport in which two people of the same weight range engage in a physical activity to try to pin one another to the ground to win their match. Each match requires courage, athleticism and quick thinking to win.
An average day for a wrestler typically includes dieting, weightlifting and physical exertion to help better prepare themselves for each match. The high-stress environment of wrestling forces participants to push through stress and motivational setbacks in favor of pursuing victory.
Now add a sibling to this grueling mix. This is what life is like for twins, Colin and Ava Strayer. Colin and Ava are both wrestlers at the tops of their categories.
Wrestling, like most sports, requires dedication, effort and strength. This sport, most of the time, includes long days, practices and focus. Finding the motivation to do work outs can be difficult.
For Colin Strayer, this sort of motivation is built in, “If I see she’s going to do a workout, then I have to do a workout so I don’t get outworked,” Strayer said.
A workload, like the one required by wrestling, can be mentally taxing. This sport may take a lot out of most people, and finding support and comfort is not easy to do.
For Ava Strayer, her support system can be found right next to her, “It’s comforting knowing I have someone to go through this with,” Strayer said.
Both Ava and Colin are worth mentioning when you talk about dominant high school wrestlers. Colin’s record for the 2024-2025 season was 28-12. Ava’s record for the 2024-2025 season was 39-0.
Despite the violent nature of this sport, these two show no fear. Both Colin and Ava are highly competitive and it is evident in how they wrestle. They both use their hard work and talent as a tool to be successful. These twins are both notable in their categories and pose as a great opponent.
In the end, winning matches and competing are the outcome of the sport, but it is the people who are with you that make it worth it. So, while having a twin may be competitive at times, having a built-in support system and motivator is an incredible privilege that many people do not have.
